Sydney Paget is nicely treated on the pick of his form in the 3.10 at Haydock today and looks worth a wager at 12/1 now returned to the scene of his last success.

Donald McCain’s gelding is a three time winner over fences and looked an exciting staying chaser in the making when winning the last of those over 3m 1f at this track in November 2013.

The eight-year-old jumped well at the head of affairs before pulling clear four from home and being heavily eased after the last to easily beat Silver By Nature by 2 3/4 lengths off a mark of 132.

The assessor put Sydney Paget up a 13lb to 145 for that success and he failed to trouble the judge in three subsequent starts.

He was pulled-up in twp of those runs – including when last seen in action at Kelso last March –  but now returns to the track after a 378 day break off a reduced mark.

Syndey Paget is now ableto race off 134, just 4lb higher than winning so impressively at this venue.

It makes him weighted to go well, and it may well be that first time up is the time to catchg him as his victory over Silver By Nature came after a lengthy break.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Sydney Paget (12/1 generally available –  use BOG firms)
