Christmas is forgotten and New Year’s is a distant memory as we forge ahead into 2018, as always looking for new experiences and new places to have a good time.

Sadly the Coronet Theatre at London’s Elephant & Castle has closed its doors, though it did manage to remain open until this year after announcing its closure back in September of 2016. Torture Garden threw their last party there last month but still have many events arranged elsewhere. I have a feeling that there will be some new venues appearing this year will be an exciting event in the Lifestyle calendar.

Last weekend we decided to travel up to Swinton to check out Cupids Swingers Club who describe themselves as “Manchester’s premier swingers club”. This long-standing, popular club has an extensive client list of liberated and welcoming members and the tastefully decorated interior is pleasing to the eye. Here are some reviews we found this week so you don’t have to take our word for it:

“We don’t usually leave a new review so quickly but we had such a good time at Escapades party at Cupid’s. One of the best party night’s we’ve been to – such a good mix of people. Everyone seemed to be having a great time and the host put in so much effort to ensure that everyone was having a fantastic night. Until next time!

Date: 15 January 2018”

“I attended cupids again on Saturday night for the escapades event. Easily the best event I have attended at any club, the atmosphere and staff are really what make this club so good.

I attend clubs as a single lady currently and would highly recommend cupids to other single ladies.

Date: 15 January 2018”

They have a great diary of upcoming parties for you to check out and are open 7 days a week so you can pop down whenever the fancy takes you. They have a fabulous dungeon room for you to explore your kinkier side, fully equipt with furniture and toys to make your night go with a bang. We had a brilliant time and got to know some very endearing people. So if you are ever in the area get yourself over to Cupids and tell them the Doctor sent you.

What sexual horrors or swinging escapades can I help you with this week?

Dear Doctor

I am new to the world of BDSM and finding it quite overwhelming. Where should I start?

Thanks in advance

P

Hi P

Welcome to BDSM, I hope you will find it a fulfilling and exciting Lifestyle. It can be quite daunting when you first start to explore as there are many variations on how people incorporate it into their lives and everyone thinks their way is the right way. Research is key! Read up on it, join groups on social media to chat with like-minded people, find out where you feel you belong within the community, what your role. Some people like to search out a Mentor to help them navigate the many potholes, some prefer to go it alone. Look into different Fetishes and see which pique your interest. Next, you may want to consider joining a kinky social network platform such as Fetlife, this way you can find people local to you as well as get to know and glean information from people all over the world. This is also a good place to look for a nearby Munch. A Munch is an informal meet up of kinksters and those interested in BDSM, usually held in public venues such as a pub or cafe, they are purely for socialising and at them, you could find out about events and parties happening in your local area.

Good luck with your exciting new journey and I do hope you will let us know how you get on.

My boyfriend said he wants to try BDSM, I am not even sure what it is. Is it just spanking etc…during sex?

M

Hi M

I am glad you asked. No, it is not just spanking and stuff during sex though that could be a part of it. The term BDSM came about in roughly 1969 though the exact origin is unclear. Practices pertaining to BDSM have been around a lot longer though and can be dated back to around 3000 BC. BDSM is what is known as a compound initialism which includes B & D (bondage and discipline), D & S (dominance and submission) and S & M (sadism and masochism) and has become the umbrella term that covers a wide range of activities, lifestyles and forms of interpersonal relationships. A lot of people consider it to be sexual, and for some, it is, as most practices have an underlying erotism to them with the individuals gaining some sort of sexual, mental or emotional release.

There are a variety of erotic pastimes that fall under the umbrella of BDSM and involve power exchange, bondage and interpersonal dynamics. There are a lot of people that may partake in something that is under the umbrella and yet not consider themselves to be embarking on a BDSM experience due to the wide range of practices it covers. People’s interest in the lifestyle can range from a one-off encounter to fully emerging themselves in the lifestyle.

It is important to find your role and how you would want it to fit into your life, do your research if you are considering exploring this avenue with your boyfriend. Enjoy and be safe.
