Table-dancers from across the country will audition at 13:00 on Monday 18th April 2016 at The Windmill Theatre, 17-19 Great Windmill Street, Soho, London, W1D 7JZ, to perform Mrs. Henderson Presents-style costumed musical numbers at the legendary Windmill Theatre for it’s 85th Birthday later in the year.
“This will involve table-dancers wearing more clothes than many of them have worn in a very long time,” says a spokesperson for Windmill Theatre.
“It’s more for the show to go on, the clothes must come on”.
The Windmill Theatre celebrates it’s 85th birthday on Wednesday 22nd June 2016, four days after Mrs. Henderson Presents finishes it’s London run on 18th June 2016.
“It’s ironic that the musical about the Windmill Theatre is performed across town at the Noel Coward Theatre in Saint Martin’s Lane, Covent Garden”, says The Windmill Theatre spokesperson.
“This is an opportunity to bring it all home to the Windmill Theatre in Soho, with Mrs. Henderson Presents-style numbers performed to perfection by our modern-day Windmill Girls”.
“In 2016, Table dancers at The Windmill Theatre have replaced the girls from 1930’s Soho that posed as naked statues for Mrs. Henderson and drew sell-out crowds”.
In the 30’s the Windmill Theatre rolled back Victorian prudishness.
“It will be exciting for our international table-dancers to dress up and hit the high notes for ‘one night only’ as 1930’s style chorus line singers before getting back to Table-dancing business after midnight”.
“I bet they give the West End performers from Mrs. Henderson Presents a run for their money”.
‘Mrs. Henderson Presents’ features music by George Fenton and Simon Chamberlain and lyrics by Don Black and stars Olivier Award-winner Trace Bennett, Emma Williams and Ian Bartholomew.
The West End musical based on the 2005 film starring Dame Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins is produced by Cameron McIntosh.
The Windmill Theatre is inviting cast members from Mrs. Henderson Presents for a ‘dance-off’ on the 85thbirthday afternoon at 14:00 on the 22nd June 2016. “It will be West End performers versus Table-dancers, if they accept our challenge” says the spokesperson.
Mrs. Henderson Presents finishes it’s London run on 18th June, 4 days before the 85th birthday of The Windmill Theatre.
The Windmill Theatre was purchased by legendary Oscar Owide 20 years ago in April 2016 and converted into an Adult Entertainment venue. It is recognized as the pre-eminent adult entertainment venue in the UK, keeping alive Soho’s reputation.
Girls auditioning for the Windmill Theatre’s 85th Birthday celebrations will also have the opportunity to be filmed for a Reality TV show about The Windmill Theatre, go full nude in the next edition of Paul Magazine and enter Ms. Table Dancing 2016 scheduled for November 2016. Winners will also appear in the Daily Sport newspaper. “The Open auditions is basically an X-Rated X-Factor,” says The Windmill Theatre spokesperson. “We’re sure Simon Cowell would like what he sees and enjoy putting The Windmill girls through to the next round”.
