Conditions at Doncaster today will hold no fears Las Verglas Star and he makes plenty of each-way appeal at 10/1 in the finale at 5.00.
Richard Fahey’s gelding has not scored since landing a 1m 2f contest at Pontefact 12 months ago on soft ground off a mark of 88 where he ran on strongly to beat Little Rocky by 2 1/2 lengths.
He went on to finish third in the mud at Redcar off a mark of 90 and although his form has been hit and miss since then he now gets into this off 84 after several solid efforts this season.
The five-year-old finished a decent third of 12 to Lady Loch at Pontefract back in April off 88, and ran a cracker on his penultimate start at haydock when beaten just a neck by Now My Son on quick ground.
He then seemed to find the drop back to 1m 1f against him when third of 6 to Ripon last time out on quick ground, staying on inside the last without ever threatening to land a blow at the leading duo.
To me he is a far better horse with cut in the ground, and he now has his optimum conditions from a mark from which he should be able to be very competitive.
He is now 4lb below his last winning rating, and having been given a break to freshen up since his last run looks overpriced for a horse that is proven to act in the conditions – unlike several of those in front of him in the betting.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Las Verglas Star (10/1 bet365, BetVictor, Stan James – BOG)
