Setai makes her eagerly awaited handicap debut in the 2.55 at Lingfield today, and with Frankie Dettori is of major interest at 10/1.
Brian Meehan’s filly failed to trouble the judge in three starts as a juvenile, but showed enough to suggest she was capable of winning races.
I was at Haydock when the daughter of Dubawi made her racecourse debut anbd she looked a nice sort in the paddock who needed time to strengthen up and would be seen to better effect as a three-year-old.
She shaped like that in the race itself, and after being held-up in mid division and making some headway two from home she faded to finish a not knocked about 8th of 11 to Hot Coffee.
Setai then put up the best of her perfromances as a juvenile next time up at this track when 5th of 10 to Along Again in a decent 6f maiden.
She led that day until weakening approaching the last furlong to be beaten 6 3/4 lengths, and the race has a solid look to it.
The winner went on to finish third in a Group 3 contest at Ascot and is now rated 99, the second home Much Promise has won since and is rated 77 on the all-weather, Gender Agenda who finsihed third has also won and is rated 81, the sixth home Threetimesalady has won twice since and is 77 on the all-weather (85 on turf) and the seventh home Hoku went on to win and finish runner-up in a Group 3 contest and is now rated 98.
That is very strong looking form and makes Setai look potentially well-in off an opening mark of 68 in what looks a very winnable race.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Setai (10/1 bet365, Betfred, BetVictor, Stan James, Hills – BOG)
