Dark Ruler has conditions in his favour in the 5.00 at Doncaster today and looks worth siding with at 11/1.

Alan Swinbank’s five-year-old has only had 12 starts, and has won twice and come placed 4 times from 11 runs on the turf.

The first of his wins came on good-to-soft ground at Musselburgh in September 2012 off a mark of 67, and the last over course and distance back in October 2013.

He came from well-off the pace and rallied gamely in the latter to beat Ty Gwr by 1/2 a length off a mark of 70 in an 18-runner amateur riders’ contest on soft ground.

It was an effort which suggested he would be capable of winning more races and open toi further improvement, and his current mark of 76 should not be beyond him.

Although he was well beaten in one run since that win, that came on the all-weather at Wolverhampton and he is liekly to be seen to far better effect now switched back to the turf.

He also has the services in the saddle of the talented Ben Curtis, and another plus is that his handler is in good form having saddled four winners and had 8 others finish in the first four from his last 12 runners.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Dark Ruler (11/1 Betfred, Sky Bet– BOG)
