Sofia’s Rock has plenty going for him in the Old Newton Cup at Haydock today (1.45) and looks worth a punt at 12/1.
Mark Johnston’s charge is unbeaten in two runs over course and distance and comes into the race at the top of his game.
In he last of those successes 21 days ago he made all and stayed on strongly to trounce Magellan by seven lengths.
Sofia’s Rock has since run a blinder to finish a three-quarters of a length runner up to Majeed off 10lb higher at Windso, where he again attempted to make all and rallied strongly when headed to go down fighting.
He is able to race in ths off an uncnagde rating of 100 and has been compettive off it in the past, as he showed when runner-up at Newmarket 11 months ago.
His handler also has a good recent record in the race having won two of the last five renewals as well as saddling Soldier in Action to finish runner-up to Dylan Mouth 12 months ago under joint top weight.
Sofia’s Rock also relishes quick ground and with Silvestre De Sousa in the saddle everything looks in place for a huge run.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Sofia’s Rock (12/1 bet365, William Hill – BOG)
