Delores Rocket has plummeted in the weights and with underfoot conditions to suit makes plenty of appeal at 12/1 in the 4.30 at Newcastle today.

Kevin Ryan’s filly came good at this time last year, winning three races in September and October.

Those successes came on ground described as soft, good-to-soft and heavy and the testing conditions this afternoon will hold no fears.

The last of those wins came in a 6f contest at Ayr on heavy where she made all and stayed on strongly to easily beat Slipstream Angel by 3 1/4 lengths off a mark of 79.

It’s fair to say that she hasn’t been at her best so far this season, but her handicap mark has fallen to just 67 as a result.

That means that she is now 12lb lower than when last successful, and gives her major claims at the weights.

The daughter of Firebreak also hinted that she could be on the way back on her penultimate start at Pontefract where she showed plenty of pace to chase the leaders before keeping on at the one pace to finish a 3 length fourth of 10 to Rocksilla on good ground.

Although she was then well beaten last time out on heavy ground over 7f at Ayr she lost all chance at the start when slowly away and that run – over a trip which is not ideal – looks worth putting a line through.

All three of her career successes have come over today’s 6f trip, and it’s interesting that having been campaigned over 7f this season – apart from on her penultimate start – she is now dropping back to it at a time when she has become very well weighted.

Another plus is that she has the services of Jamie Spencer in the saddle, and with the ground ideal everything looks in place for a huge run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Delores Rocket (12/1 Paddy Power, Stan James – BOG)
