Firmament has become well-treated and looks worth an each-way wager at 14/1 in the Victoria Cup at Ascot today (4.00).

David O’Meara’s charge is on a long losing run having not scored since landing a competitive 20-runner affair at York back in August 2016 off a mark of 96.

However, he has posted some really solid efforts in defeat including at this vanue.

They include a good third to Tabarrak in a Listed contest off an officla rating of 109 and a 2 lenbth fifth of 17 to Remarkable off the same rating in the Cunard Handicap.

He was also far from disgarced on his final atrt of the campaign back in October at this venue when eighth of 20 to Lord Glitters in the Balmoral off 109.

Firmament has failed to cut any ice in two runs this season, but they were on soft ground and he has quickly been cut some slack by the assessor.

He is now able to race off 102 and that makes him nicely treared from a handicapping perspective at a track he runs well on ground which will suit.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Firmament (14/1 Coral, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Sky Bet – BOG,  1/5 the odds 6 places)
