The big race of the day is the bet365 Gold Cup Chase at Sandown (3.50) and Hadrian’s Approach looks weighted to go well at 14/1.

Nicky Henderson’s charge finished second to Dynaste in the 2012 running of the Feltham and third to subsequent Gold Cup winner Lord Windermere in the RSA at the Cheltenham Festival last year off an official rating of 147.

He went on to finish a decent seventh in this contest 12 months ago, and  now runs off 1lb lower.

The seven-year-old also comes into the race fresh having had just four runs this season, and has some strong form to his name.

He got beat just a nose by Bury Parade on his seasonal reapperance at Kempton back in November and now meets that rival on 14lb better terms.

It makes no sense to me than he can be backed at much bigger odds than that rival, and he has since gone on to beat  Super Duty in a graduation chase at Newbury and finish a fair 14th of 23 to Holywell at the Cheltenham Festival when last seen in action.

The gelding is also still relatively lightly raced over fences, has a touch of class, handles the ground and has the services of Barry Geraghty in the saddle.

The one slight concern is that he is prone to clout the odd fence, but he jumped much better last time out at Cheltenham and looks weighted to take the beating if putting in a similar round.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Hadrian’s Approach (14/1 Betfred, Coral, Hills – BOG)
