Capo Rosso shaped really well last time out and with cheekpieces fitted for the first time looks worth a wager at 15/2 in the 3.00 at Musselburgh.

Tom Dascombe’s charge got back to winning ways when winning a 7f contest on quick ground at warick baack in May where after racing up with the pace he ran on strongly to beat Shore Step by 1 1/4 lengths off a mark of 82.

He then put in an even better effort in a class 3 contest at Haydock where he led until being headed close home to be beaten 1/2 a length by So Beloved off 88.

Since then his form has been a bit hit and miss, but he did run well four starts back at Haydock off a mark of 89 when 5th of 13 to Ashaadd in a competitive class 2 contest that has thrown up plenty of winners and he shaped as if his time could be near again when an eye-ctaching third of 10 to Horsted Keynes at Wolverhampton last time up.

He raced in mid-division that day before making headway a furlong from home to be nearest at the finish, and although beaten 3 1/2 lengths the winner is a useful sort and time is likely to show that he faced an impossible task trying to conceded him 9lb.

In the cirumstances it was a fine effort against a totally unexposed sort who is well ahead of his mark, and he now gets into this off the same rating  of 85.

That means that he is just 3lb higher than his last success, and on his efforts behind So Beloved and Ashaadd make him look well treated in this class 4 contest.

It’s also possible that the new headgear will sharpen him up, and if they do he is weighted to take all the beating in this if building on his latest effort.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Capo Rosso (15/2 bet365, Betfred – BOG)
