The Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter (3.20) is the big betting race of the day and the unexposed Mr Moss makes plenty of appeal at 16/1.
Evan Williams’ gelding opened his account over fences in good style when beating the useful Blenheim brook by 3 lengths over 3m 1f at Wetherby back in October, racing up with the pace from the offl and staying on strongly to find plenty at the business end of affairs.
He then ran a stinker behind Join Together in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham but he was clearly not right and that run is best ignored.
The seven-year-old was then given a nice break before reappearing at Doncaster two weeks ago and ran a cracker to be beaten just a nose by the improving Beneficial Reform.
He was held up that day and made a bad mistake five out before keeping on in determined style and the way he was finishing over the 3m trip suggested to me that today’s stamina test would be right up his street.
His lightly raced profile means that he remains open to bags of improvement and his current rating of 128 certainly looks exploitable.
I think that he is the type that will come into his own over extreme distances, and his shrewd handler looks to have laid him out for this.
Another plus is that the yard are going well at the moment, and at 16/1 he looks massively overpriced and cracking each-way value.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Mr Moss (16/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
