Bearskin shaped well last time out and makes plenty of each-way appeal at 18/1 in the 5.00 at Catterick today now dropped back in trip and fitted with the visor for the first time.

Anne Duffield’s charge had three quick runs in maidens at the backend of last season, shaping with promise on each occasion.

Those runs all came within a 44 day period, and it’s clear that connections were keen to get him a handicap mark for the start of this campaign.

Bearskin then made his debut in that sphere over 6f at Redcar back in April, where he ran on late to finish fifth of 16 to Le Latier.

He shaped as is needing the run that day, his first for 182 days, chasing the leaders until getting outpaced and then keeping on well at the death to be beaten 5 3/4 lengths.

Connections then upped him to a mile next time up at the same vanue, and Bearskin again ran better than the bare result indicates to finish seventh of 13 to Sherriff Of Nawton an soft ground which didn’t suit.

The son of Kodiac was then not kncoked about when finishing a keeping on 7 length seventh of 9 to Space War over 7f at Thirsk, and ran better than the bare result indicates over a mile at the same venue last time out when fourth of 11 to Eddiemaurice.

Bearskin raced very keenly at in the lead until getting headed a furlong out and being unable to find any extra, and it was an effort which suggested a drop back to 7f should suit.

He now gets that today, and having been dropped another 3lb by the assessor, now runs off just 54 having started life in handicaps off 60.

That gives him a shout at the weights if building on his latest effort, especially if the first time visor has the desired effect.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Bearskin (18/1 Hills – BOG)
