Kodicil looks worth a wager at 4/1 to defy top weight and gain a deserved success in the finale at Ripon today (5.50).

Tim Walford’s gelding has put in  number of solid efforts this season, finishing runner-up three times in May/June including over course and distance when beaten just a neck by Big Time Billy off a mark of 62.

He then ran another highly creditable race when finishing a 1 3/4 length third of 7 to Petella at Doncaster off today’s mark of 65 where he attempted to make all and weakened deep inside the last.

The five-year-old now meets the winner on 7lb better terms and that should be more than enough for him to reverse the placings.

The selection then went off far to hard for his own good when  5th of 13 to in an amateur riders’ contest at Doncaster on his lastest start, but it was an effort which suggested he was still in form and he should fare much better now that he he has the professional services of Graham Gibbons in the saddle.

He should also be very competitive in this class 6 affair off 65 given that his runs againt Big Time Billy and Petella came in class 5 contests and is just 3lb higher than when registering his last success at Pontefract back in 2011.

There is also every chnace that he could be allowed his own way up front in this contest, and if that’s the case he is likely to be hard to peg back in what looks a very weak contest lacking any real strength in depth.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Kodicil (4/1 bet365 – BOG)
