Mataajir is back down to a mark he can exploit and looks decent value at 5/1 to do so in the 3.45 at Southwell today.

Derk Shaw’s gelding was last successful over 7f at this track last March where he made all to slam Mucky Molly by 5 lengths off a mark of 53.

He followed that up with an excellent second to Ace Of Spies, again over 7f at this track, off 60 after which his form tailed off.

However he hinted at a return to form over course and distance three starts back when finishing a 2 3/4 length fourth of 12 to No Win No Fee off 51, and although he has not backed that run up in two subsequent starts the handicapper has cut him some more slack and he now gets into this off just 48.

That is 4lb lower than when last successful and the lowest rating he has run off since December 2011 and gives him a massive shout at the weights on the pick of his form.

There is also every chnace that he will get his own way up front in thgis line-up, and if that’s the case he should prove extremely hard to peg back in the hands of Dale Swift

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Mataajir (5/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
