5/2 Mind The Net can capture Scottish Derby at Shawfield

Posted on by Dave Metcalf

The final of the Scottish Derby takes centre stage on a decent card at Shawfield tonight (live on RPGTV, Sky 212) and Irish raider Mind The Net is strongly fancied at 5/2 to land the spoils in the big race at 9.15.

Pat Buckley’s son of Westmead Hawk has done nothing but impress in the qaulifying rounds, looking an unlucky loser when getting crowded and going down by 1 3/4 lengths to Jaytee Lightning before gaining his revenge over that rival in last week’s semi-final.

He showed early pace in the latter before staying on strongly to pick up Paul Young’s dog, who had poached an early lead, by a neck – leaving the impression that there was plenty more to come.

He should be able to get a nice run around the ouside from Trap 5 with the the slow starting Holdem Spy on his outside, and I can’t see that rival picking him up if he hits the front as he is a really strong sort who finds plenty at the business end of affairs.

The biggest danger could well be Calzaghe Jack in Trap 4 who has shown blistering early pace to win boith his starts in the competition and should be able to get a clean run to the bend with Jaytee Lightning on his inside sure to be heading for the rails.

In the 8.58 Trap 1 Holdem Tight looks to have a lovely draw in Trap 1 and makes plenty of appeal at 4/1.

The son of Kiloch Brea ran well when third to Jaytee Lightning in the first round of the Scottish Derby and was then far from disgarced in the smei-final last week when occupying the saem position behind Holdem Spy.

He should gets bags of room to manouevre with Cashen Maureen moving middle on the run to the first bend, and if hitting the front is going to take some pegging back.

In the stayers contest at 8.58pm I am very sweet on the chances of Trap 3 Maireads Lass at 3/1.

The son of Top Honcho is a strong sort who has moved really well in recent trials and should relish the 670m trip.

This looks a very winnable contest, and he has enough pace to clear trap 2 and that should emnable him to gain a good early position before kicking in the trubo late on.

Daily Sport recommended bets:

8.26pm – T3 Maireads Lass (3/1 bet365, Paddy Power – BOG)

8.58pm – T1 Holdem Tight (4/1 bet365 – BOG, Hills, Sky Bet)

9.15pm – T5 Mind The Net (5/2 Hills, 888sport)
