Never To Be was a big eye-catcher last time out when given a shocking ride and is strongly fancied at 6/1 to get back to winning ways in the 8.55 at Kempton this evening.

John Gosden’s colt was successful twice last year, winning his maiden at Lingfield before going on to score over course and distance off a mark of 74.

He then didn’t get the best of runs when finishing a length runner-up off 78, again at this venue, and was then on the sidelines for 127 days before finishing a cracking second of six to Passing Star on seasonal reappearance over course and distance back in March.

Never To Be got outpaced by the winner inside the final furlong but stuck to the task well and stayed on to go down by 1 1/2 lengths.

It was a cracking effort given that he was attempting to give the now 102-rated winner 6lb, and makes Never To Be look nicely treated off a current mark of 83.

Although Never To Be could finish only fifth of 9 to Ogbourne Downs last time out over a mile at this venue, he was only beaten 2 lengths when given a terrible ride by William Buick.

Aftre being steadied at the start from what looked a good draw in stall 5, he quickly found himself at the rear on the inside with nowhere to go and Buick had to manouevre him out wide as the leaders kicked for home and got first run.

Never To Be then kept on well under very tender handling to be newarest at the finish and finsihed full of running without every being asked a serious question.

It was a run which suggested he was ahead of his mark, and prior to that “effort” his form on the polytrack surface read 1,1,2,2.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Never To Be (9/2 bet365, BetVictor, Coral, Stan James, Sky Bet – BOG)
