Somerset Lias looks to have plenty going for him in the 1.40 at Exeter today and at 7/1 rates the standout bet on the card.

Bob Bucklers charge caught the eye on hurdling debut last October when plugging on to finish seventh of 15 to Horizontal Speed in a decent contest at this track and went on to show improved form and twice finish in the frame.

In the first of those he stayed on well to finish a 2 1/4 length third to Saint Breiz at Wincanton and finsihed just a neck behind the runner-up Carry On Sydney who was rated 125 going into the contest.

The six-year-old went on to finish an excellent 3/4 length second to Dragon’s Den on handicap debut over course and distance off a mark of 110, sticking to the task well in a race which had a fairly strong look to it for the grade.

Somerset Lias was then off the track for 163 days before reapperaing at Wincanton last month and shaped as if needing the outing – finishing a not kncoked about sixth of 10 to Milord.

He is sure to strip much fitter for that outing, and his current mark of 115 looks exploitable in this class 4 contest judged on his run behind Dragon’s Den and Saint Breiz.

The booking of Liam Heard is also a positive as he has a strike rate of 20% when teaming up with the yard in the past 12 months (2 wins and 2 places fro 10 rides) which has produced a £33 profit to a £1 level stake.

Daily Sport rceommended bet: 3pts win Somerset Lias (7/1 William Hill – BOG)
