Simpson looks wortha wager at 8/1 in the 5.10 at Ascot today now eased in grade.

The Ed Walker trained gelding had some useful form as a juvenile when winning once and running well to make the frame on numerous occasions. They included when a solid second of 10 to Lynwood Gold at Newmarket on the final start of the campaign.

Connections pitched Simpson into Listed company for his return to action and he ran well when a 4 1/2 lenth fifth to Crossed Baton over 1m 2f at Epsom, weakening inside the last having held every chance after being slowly away.

The winner is a smart sort and third home Dee Ex Bee, who finished 3 lengths in front of him, has gone to to finish runner-up to Masar in the Investec Derby.

Simpson backed that up with a solid third in a class 2 at Chester before catching the eye when denied a clear run and finishing a 4 3/4 lengths sixth behind Crack On Crack On in the class 2 Bowl at Haydock. Both those runs came off a rating of 90.

He was then totally undone by the draw last time out when 20th of 30 in the Royal Hunt Cup here where he was one of only three that raced alone on the unfavoured far side rail. He led that group home but the massive bias gave him no chance.

Simpso has since been dropped 2lb to 88 and now drops into class 3 company for the first time in his career. It makes him looks weighted to run a big race on the pick of his form.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Simpson (8/1 bet365, BetVictor, William Hill – BOG)
