Thomas Junior looks on a handy mark in the 3.10 at Lingfield today and worth siding with at 8/1 in a weak looking contest.

The gelding was a fair bumper performer and ran some decent races to make the frame over hurdles when trained by David Pipe.

His stadout effort came when fourth of 17 to Mister Newby at Newbury over extended 3m  off a mark of 110 in a much stronger class 4 handicap than this.

Thomas Junior made a couple of errors before taking up the running two from home and after being headed approaching the last could find no extra on the run-in to be beaten just over 4 lengths.

That is strong form in the context of this contest, and the drop back to 2m 4f looks sure to suit.

Although the five-year-old was well beaten on his first start for Paul Morgan on reappearance 10 days ago, that was a class 3 contest and he shaped and ran as if needing the outing.

He certainly wan’t knocked about, and the drop back down to claas 4 company this afternoon is a big plus.

Thomas Junior has also been dropped 2lb and gets into this off the same mark as his good Newbury run, and if he can run anywhere near that level he is the one to beat in a contest severly lacking any strength in depth.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Thomas Junior (8/1 bet365, BetVictor, Boylesports, Coral, William Hill – BOG)
