Artful Prince is back down to workable mark and makes plenty of appeal at 9/1 in the 4.55 at Nottingham today having signalled a return to form on his latest start.

James Given’s gelding repsonded well to the fitting of blinkers whne winning five times in the second half of 2013, with his last success coming on good-to-soft ground at Newcastle where he stayed on well to beat Dark Ruler by 1/2 a length off a mark of 71.

He now gets into this off just 1lb higher following a mixed bags of results this season.

The four-year-old posted a series of solid efforts back in June/July to make the frame on three occasions, after which his form tailed off.

However there was much more to like about his latest effort in a class 3 contest over 1m 2f at this venue when a close-up fourth of 11 to Donny Rover.

Artful Prince led that day until being headed inside the last and losing two places close home to be beaten 1 2/4 lengths, and it later transpired that he had lost a shoe.

In the circumstances it was a cracking effort, and although he now drops down to a mile – a trip over which he has never won – that run would suggest it shouldn’t be a problem.

Artful Prince also now drops down two grade into class 5 company, and any forecast rain that falls at the track will also be in his favour.

If he can build on his latest effort, then he looks a major player on the pick of his form.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Artful Prince (9/1 bet365, BetVictor, Sky Bet – BOG)
