Brio Conti looks on a potentially handy mark on handicap debut in the 2.40 at Kempton today and worth a wager at 7/1.
Paul Nicholls’ six-year-old was a bumper winner whio ran a cracker on his second start over the obstacles when chinned close home and beaten 1/2 a length by Constantine Bay in an 11-runner affair at Haydock.
The runner-up has won twice since and ran a stormer to finish fourth to Penhill in tha Grade 1 Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival earlier in the week off an official rating of 142.
Brio Conti then disappoinmted next time up when eighth at Cheltenham but quickly bounced back to open his account over the obstacles with an an easy 9 length winner over Wenyerreeadyfreddie at Doncaster.
The runner-up has won easily since at the same venue to be rated 129 and give the form a boost.
Judged on that success, and his fine second at Haydock, Brio Conti’s openining mark of 135 could well be on the lenient side.
The step up in trip may also unlock further improvement and Brio Conti is a lightly-raced and unexposed sort who looks a potential improver now going down the handicap route.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Brio Conti (7/1 bet365, BetVictor – BOG)
