Newcastle travel to Ewood Park tonight (8pm KO) in a bid to extend their unbeaten run this season by knocking Blackburn out of the Carling Cup and look value at 13/8 to do just that.
The two sides have only ever met once in the competition, and that game back in November 1998 ended with Rovers winning 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
However the Magpies come into this tie in a rich vein of form and a strongly fancied to gain their revenge.
They have won seven and drawn four this season and are currently level on points with third placed Chelsea in the Premier League whereas their opponents site bottom of the pile after a woeful run of results.
Blackburn boss Steve Kean has struggled to win over Rovers fans since replacing Sam Allardyce, and the Scot is currently clinging on to his job by the skin of his teeth.
He doesn’t have the support of the fans and that seems to be spreading to the players as they continue to fail to perform on the pitch.
I’m therefore surprised that bookmakers find it hard to split the two sides tonight, with 13/8 the general price on offer available for both.
For me Newcastle should be clear favourites so the 13/8 is too big and they have to be the bet.
