The well-treated Corporal Maddox should get the race run to suit in the 3.40 Chester and is of major interest at 6/1.
Jamie Osborne’s five-year-old has not won since scoring three times as a two-year-old, but he has run some really solid races and is now back down to a mark he can exploit.
The gelding, who was rated as high as 106 as a juvenile is now running off 84 – the same as when narrowly touched off by Courageous over 6f here last September.
He was doing all his best work at the finish that day and only failed to get up by 1/2 a length and today’s 7f journey is ideal.
It’s also worth noting that he is yet to run a bad race at the track, finishing placed twice and a close up 7th of 14 when badly hampered.
He clearly runs the Roodee well, and although he is yet to encounter ground as testing as today’s their was some juice in the ground when he chased home Courageous.
The son of Royal Applause also put in a really eye-catching run on his seasonal reappearance at Lingfield last month when staying on from way off the pace to finish a never nearer fifth of 12 to My Freedom, and with that run under his belt should be spot on to do himself justice.
Another plus is that their are lots of horses in the race who like to force the pace, and there is every possibility that they will cut each others throats and set it up for a closer like him.
To me this represents the best chance he has had for a long time of scoring an overdue success, and at the odds on offer he looks good value to give Dr Marwan Koukash another winner at his favourite track.
