Today’s Chester Cup (2.35) looks a harder puzzle than ever to solve given the soft conditions, but the two I like at the odds are Harrison’s Cave and Dazinski.

The former is trained by the all conquering Aidan O’Brien and showed progressive form last season.

He showed that he handle the conditions when opening his account in a 1m 2f maiden at the Curragh on heavy going and went on to land a Navan handicap over 1m 5f on soft.

The son of Galileo was then pitched into the deep end for his final start as a three-year-old when competing in the Breeders’ Cup Marathon where he faltered when attempting to make a move on the inside and eventually finished a 5 1/2 length 9th of 11 to Afleet Again.

To me something was clearly amiss that day, and he looks the type who could have more to offer this season.

Although he only managed to finish 10th fo 16 on his comeback run at Leopardstown last month he ran far better than his finishing position suggests under what can only be described as a very “tender” ride.

Held up at the rear he made some headway entering the straight before being eased right down to be beaten 10 3/4 lengths at the line.

It was obvious that connections had other days in mind for him, and he is sure to strip fitter and be spot on for this.

He does step up significantly in trip, but I think he will stay and despite and wide draw in stall 15 he looks sure to go well at 8/1.

My other fancy Dazinski has fared far better draw wise having bagged stall 1.

Mark Tompkins’ six-year-old holds no secrets from the handicapper but looked as good as ever when landing a 2m handicap at York last August 0ff a mark of 87.

He resumes action off just 2lb higher today, has form with cut in the ground and more significantly has won around the circuit.

The gelding has also run well fresh in the past, and at 20/1 he looks a lively outsider and worth an each-way punt.

Daily Sport recommended bets: 3pts each-way Harrison’s Cave (8/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
2pts each-way Dazinski (20/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
