The well handicapped Chosen Character rates a solid bet at 3/1 to score an overdue success in the finale at Haydock today (5.45).
Tom Dascombe’s gelding showed that his time was near when running a cracker last time out at Chester to be third of 14 to Hayek.
He ran on strongly to be beaten just a length and now meets the winner on 8lb better terms.
That should be more than enough to turn the tables, and I am surprised that bookmakers make Hayek 13/8 favourite for this with the selection more than double his odds.
The handicapper has put Chosen Character back up 1lb to a mark of 70, but he is still incredibly well-treated.
The four-year-old has run consistently well since landing a brace of handicaps last May, the first of which came over 7f at this track off today’s mark.
He slammed Prince of Burma by 5 lengths that day, and the followed up under a 6lb penalty at Pontefract over this trip when comfortably beating Tasfeya by 1 3/4 lengths.
The son of Choisir then went on to be placed off 82, and with Natasha Eaton taking a further 3lb off his back in this he is weighted to take all the beating.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 4pts win Chosen Character (3/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
