City women train ahead of St Polten

Manchester City Women trained with a full available squad on Wednesday morning ahead of the UEFA Womens Champions league first round second leg tie with St Polten on Thursday evening.

City will however be without Pauline Bremer who suffered a broken leg in Saturdays WSL victory away to Everton.

Nick Cushing’s side go into the game 3-0 ahead on aggregate thanks to goals from Demi Stokes,Steph Houghton and Nikita Parris so they are the favourites going into tomorrow’s clash at the Academy stadium.

When asked about Bremer Cushing said, “She went through her first stage of Surgery and it went well the whole team went to visit her in hospital on Sunday she was in good spirits and we wish her well”.

Demi Stokes said “It’s not a nice situation to see happen to any player all of us are supporting her on her journey to recover.

Stokes who has just been called up to the England squad for the France friendly fixture at the end of the month and she added “I look forward to next weekend I have no concerns about going out to play”.

Stokes when asked about going out to play Champions League football again tomorrow night added “We are all focused on tomorrow night’s game I’m looking forward to getting back out there in front of the home fans”.

Nick Cushing who guided his side to the semi-finals of the tournament last season said “I want to put a winning team out St Polten are an exceptionally good team “

“We want to play exciting football and grow are fanbase the squad is in a better place than now than it was at this time last season”

When asked what he thought about the squad winning the Champions League this year Cushing said “We certainly have a squad to win this tournament but first and foremost we have to beat St Polten before we can start thinking of quarter and semi-finals”.
