Bouvreuil has some smart form to his name and looks worth siding with at 13/2 in the 1.20 at Newbury today now eased in grade.

Paul Nicholls’six-year-old was a smart hurdler who ran a stormer in his first season over fences when runner-up to Ballyalton in the Close Brothers Novices’ Handicap Chase at the 2016 Cheltenham Festival.

He also shaped with bags of promise on his first start last season when fifth of 17 to Taquin De Seuil in the ultra-competitive Betvictor Gold Cup at Cheltenham and was then far from disgraced when sixth fo 16 to Frodon in the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup at the same venue.

Bouvreuil went om to finish a cracking 7 3/4 lengths third of 24 to subsequent Grade 1 winner and now 163-rated Road To Respect in the Brown Advisory and Merriebelle Stable Plate at the Cheltenham festival off a mark of 145.

The form of the latter is very strong and Bouvreuil is able to race in this lower grade class 2 contest off 1lb lower.

It gives him every chance at teh weights and this is easier than the Grade 2 Old Roan Chase at Aintree where he finished seventh to Smad Place on seasonal reappearance.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Bouvreuil (13/2 generally available – use BOG firms)
