Crag a Catterick cracker

Embsay Crag ran a cracker on his reappearance and at 11/2 looks the best bet on today’s Catterick card (3.30) now upped to a more suitable trip.

The six-year-old was given far too much to do when finishing fourth of 16 to Qaraaba over 1m 2f at Doncaster two weeks ago, where he travelled strongly throughout and was doing his best work at the finish without ever threatening to score.

Today’s extra two furlongs will be right up his street, and although he has not won since beating Clerk’s Choice at Chester back in August 2009, that  that win came off a mark of 76 and he now races of just 69.

He also ran a cracker when chasing home Arlequin at Doncatser last April off a mark of 78, so Kate Walton’s charge is clearly well handicapped.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that he finished a 5 length second to Dangerous Midge in 2010 off a rating of 81 and that horse went on to land the Breeders Cup Turf in the same year.

Both those efforts entitle him to plenty of respect from his lowly mark and he looks sure to take all the beating with Kelly Harrison in the saddle.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Embsay Crag (11/2 Boyelsports, Hills – BOG)
