Dartmouth the Irish St Leger punt

Dartmouth looks a cracking each-way punt at 15/2 in the Irish St Leger at the Curragh today (4.50).

Sir Michael Stoute’s five-year-old completed a hat-trick of successes in pattern company last season.

In the last of those victories, he beat multiple Group 1 winner Highland Reel by a head in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes over 1m 4f at Royal Ascot.

Dartmouth looked as good as ever on seasonal reappearance when getting up close home to beat Simple Verse by a neck in the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup over 1m 6f and ran a blinder last time out when chinned close home in the 2m Lonsdale Cup at York.

The drop back in trip is sure to suit and he is a classy tough sort who looks a massive player on the pick of his form.

I also think that Order Of St George, who was turned over at 1/7 in this 12 months ago by Wicklow Brave, is a far from straightforward sort who may well shirk the issue if it comes down to a battle.

This also looks a stronger rebewal than last year and I am keen to oppose the long odds-on jolly.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Dartmouth (15/2 bet365 – BOG, 1/4 odds 1,2,3)
