Dursey Sound impressed when making a winning debut over fences and is strongly fancied at 11/4 to follow-upon his handicap debut in the 2.45 at Market Rasen today.

Jonjo O’Neill’s charge was a useful hurdler last season, scoring at Uttoxter and Wetherby and finishing an excellent second to Easter Day in a class 2 contest at Ascot off an official rating 135.

He then diappointed on his final start over the smaller obstacles when pulled-up behind The New One at Warwick, but that was clearly not his running and he left it way behind when scoring on his chasing debut at Bangor last month after a 264 day absence.

The five-year-old chased the leaders that day and after a mistake two out was driven to lead before the last before running on strongly to score with more in hand than the 1 3/4 length winning margin suggests.

It was a most pleasing effort and one which suggested that he would win plenty more races and needed keeping on the right side.

Connections have wasted no time in switching his attentions to handicaps, and he now gets into this off an opening mark of 138.

I think that may well be on the lenient side, and with Richie McLernon in the saddle think he looks overpriced to beat the favourite Gullinbursti who is coming back from a lengthy absence and hasn’t always impressed with his attitude at the business end of his races.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 4pts win Dursey Sound (11/4 generally available – use BOG firms)
