Exchequer doesn’t look on a bad mark on the pick of his form in the 3.05 at Newcastle today and makes plenty of appeal at 16/1.

David Brown’s charge has notched all three of his career successes on the all-weather, with the last of those coming in a 7f contest at Lingield three starts back where he made virtually all to win easing down by 1/4 lengths off a mark of 90.

Although now 5lb higher, he should be competitive off it judged on his excellent second of 16 to Brando in a 6f contest at Haydock last September.

Exchequer stayed on well to go down by just 3/4 of a length, and the winner – to whom he was conceding 7lb – has developed into a really useful sprint handicapper who finsihed a cracking head second in the Wolingham at Royal Ascot when last seen in action and is now rated 107.

That is stromng form, and at the odds on offer Exchequer looks overpriced and well worth an each-way wager.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Exchequer (16/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
