Fastar has shaped with plenty of promise in two starts this season and looks worth an each-way wager at 10/1 in the 5.20 at Newmarket today now having his sights lowered.
Brian Meehan’s charge enjoyed a productive 2017 when winning three times, rounding off the campaign with back-to-back successes at Sandown and Haydock. The last of those came off a mark of 83.
Although now 7lb higher in the weights he has shown that he can be competitive off his revised rating.
He ran a cracker off it on retrun to action at Sandown where he raced keenly before keeping on to finish a 2 3/4 length fourth of 13 to Chiefofchiefs in a class 2.
Fastar backed that up with a solid effort in a similar grade affair at Newcastle when sixth of 15 to Humbert where he held every chance inside the final furlong before weakenig late on to be beaten just over a length.
Those runs should have put him spot on and he now drops down into class 3 company in which he is 1-2.
With Frankie Dettori in the saddle he looks to have plenty going for him in this.
