Slough’s former amateur boxing star Andrew Doe has promised to take the UK’s premier boxing league by later this month, as he becomes the latest big name signing to make the move to the increasingly popular Queensbury Boxing League televised boxing series.

Twenty year old Welterweight Doe will step through the ropes on Saturday April the 19th at the Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey to take on Scotland’s Ahmed Ibrahim in a four round contest, and the three times ABA champion has already set his sights on winning titles in the competition this year as he bids to establish himself as a major force in the Welterweight division.

Doe got his first taste of the limelight last month at the Alexandra Palace in London when he was interviewed by British Eurosport ahead of the big night, and after seeing friend Ruben Giles win the competitions British Middleweight title in London, Doe is confident his wealth of experience gained during his time in the amateur ranks will give him a big advantage when he starts his quest for glory.

Talking ahead of the show Doe said: “ Competing in the Queensbury Boxing League in front of such a huge audience is a great platform for me to really get noticed, and I’m going in there to put on a big performance and get the win.

“ This is a good step up for me after calling time of my successful amateur career, and after doing what I could in the ABA’s I feel its time to show the country what I can do and become one of the divisions biggest names.

Doe does not need to look far for inspiration after watching close friend and former Olympian Billy Joe Saunders rise to boxing stardom over the past couple of years after winning the British and Commonwealth titles, and the Slough native believes boxing in the league will give him a huge boost as he bids to emulate Saunders triumphs.

“I’ve seen Billy Joe do really well in his boxing career and it definitely motivates me to do the same.

“ Training wise I’m taking this opportunity very seriously and I’m not going to leave anything to chance during my preparations, and with the team I’ve got behind me down at the Real Deal gym in Reading I know I can go all the way on the show this year.

Doe’s Welterweight debut will feature on the league’s packed undercard of action headlined by Cuban sensation Yisan Rodriguez’s Queensbury British Light Cruiserweight title defence, and for more information on the show log on towww.queensburyboxing.co.uk
