Frankel confirmed his status as the highest rated horse in the world when destroying the opposition in the JLT Lockinge Stakes at Newbury today.
Sir Henry cecil’s wonder colt, who was sent off the 2/7 favourite, strode home 5 lengths clear of Excelebration in an exhibition of class and power.
He he settled well under a tight reign for regular pilot Tom Queally behind the pace set by his half-brother and stable companion Bullet Train, and after easing his way to the front on the bridle two out showed an instant change of gear to stride clear without breaking sweat.
The winning jockey said: “It’s a great relief he’s come back. It’s great to be on board.
“He’s grown up from last year, he’s thicker set. “If you look at him now, he’s the real deal – he’s filled out since last year.
“He showed that burst of acceleration. He’s not like anything I’ve sat on before.”
Cecil said: “He always takes a little bit of a hold, but he quickened up so well. The first race is never his best race, he always improves for the race.”
BetVictor go 11/10 about him remaining unbeaten for the rest of the season (must run at least twice) and that looks a huge price as he looks better than ever and is one of the best we have ever seen.
