German teen sensation Bauer to make US debut

Leon BauerGermany’s youngest pro boxer 17 yo Leon Bauer 7-0, 6 KO’s will make his US debut on April 9 when he fights on the undercard of Pacquiao v Brandley III at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, which also features countryman ‘King’ Arthur Abraham’s WBO World title defence against Gilberto Ramirez.

In crossing the Atlantic, Bauer will not only become the youngest German fighter to have fought in Las Vegas, but also the youngest fighter to have ever been licensed to box in the fight capital of the World.

On April 9, Bauer will be 17 years and 233 days old, breaking the previous record of Jose Benavidez, who was 10 days older when making his professional debut in 2010 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

‘’This is going to be an incredible moment for me,’’ Bauer told DAILY SPORT Boxing. ‘’I’m very grateful to my promoter Team Sauerland for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to being a part of such a huge occasion and showcasing my skills in front of the American fans.’’

‘’I think Leon will prove very popular with the American audience. He may even become the next German Wunderkind,’’ said promoter Kalle Sauerland in a reference to one of Germany’s most successful sporting exports, NBA superstar, Dirk Nowitzki.

‘’He has a bright future ahead of him. At just 17 years of age, he has already shown a lot of potential, and with the right guidance, we are sure he can go all the way!”
