The Groove is back down below his last winning mark and looks worth a wager at 4/1 in the 5.15 at Ffos Las today.

The gelding landed a 10-runner contest at Salisbury 11 months ago by a nose off 63 when trained by Fergal O’Brien. He went on to make the frame in his next three outings – twice off 65 and once off 67.

He then failed to shine in four subsequent outings but there was lost to like about his first start for handler David Evans when third of nine to Makambe at Chepstow last month. He held every chance at the furlong marker before keeping on at the one pace to be beaten two lengths.

The winner is a progressive sort who has come out and won since off 70, so it was a solid effort given tha pair ran off the same rating.

The Groove is able to race in this off an unchanged mark of 61, 2lb lower than when last victorious, and also has Rossa Ryan in the saddle who take off a handy 3lb with his claim.

He is also versatile as regards ground and has proven form on soft/heavy, so has plenty going for him in this weak class 5 affair.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win The Groove (4/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
