Gottcher has slipped to a handy mark and with Jamie Spencer on-board makes plenty of appeal at 7/1 in the 5.20 at Pontefract.
David Barron’s gelding was heavily backed after a lengthy lay-off at Kempton last month but lost all chance when running very wide round the bend and was not subjected to a hard race once it was clear his chance had gone.
However the fact that he was so well supported suggest that connections believe he is well weighted, and he is indeed now 10lb lower than when scoring at Haydock a year ago.
The four-year-old battled on well that day to beat Elland Ally over 5f on quick ground, and was rather harshly put up 5lb to a mark of 80 for his narrow success.
That proved to be too much and he subsequently failed to trouble the judged in his next seven starts before his comeback run at Kempton.
He now races off a career-low mark of just 65, and with conditions to suit it would be no surprise to see him take advantage and land this.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Gottcher (7/1 bet365 – BOG)
