Ghost can give bookies nightmares

Posted on by Dave Metcalf

Course and distance winner Ghostwing looks decent value at 7/1 in the 5.00 at Southwell now dropped back to the minimum trip.

The five-year-old took advantage of his declining handicap mark to score here three starts ago off a mark of 75 when readily accounting for No Mean Trick by 1 1/2 lengths in a new course record time.

Although he has since failed to fire in two subsequent starts, he was whacked up 7lbs for that win and both those runs have come over 6f.

He was far from disgraced last time out however, where although eventually finishing just 9th of 10 to Bandstand at this venue he was beaten just under four lengths having raced up with the pace before weakening inside the last.

To me that run suggested that a return to today’s 5f trip was required to see him get back in the winners enclosure, and with the handicapper having dropped him another pound he is back on a far more workable mark of 80.

His record reveals that he is yet to finish out of the first two in races over today’s course and distance, and with David Sweeney – who partnered him to his last success – back in the saddle a big run looks on the cards.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Ghostwing (7/1 BetVictor – BOG)
