Gouray Girl will relish the soft ground conditions at Newcastle today and is strongly fancied at 9/1 to bounce back to form and land the 5.30.

The mare took advantage of her falling mark when romping away with a 7f contest on soft ground at Doncaster three starts back where she travelled strongly throughout and drew clear to beat Fieldgunner Kirkup by 5 lengths off a mark of 77.

She then disappointed next time up when well beaten in the Spring Mile at Newbury on good-to-sft ground before finishing a never nearer 7th of 11 to Spintarix on similar conditions over 6f at Ripon on Sunday.

That trip is too sharp for her these days, and the return to 7f – over which she has registered both her career successes on the turf – is sure to see her in a far better light.

Brian Ellison’s charge will also be well suited by all the rain which has fallen at the track, and although now running off a mark of 86 remains well-treated on the pick of her form.

She ran to cracking races when runner-up of it last season in two competitive class 3 contest at Ascot and Newmarket, and prior to here recent win at Donny her last success had come off a mark of 89.

Another plus is that she has a good high draw in stall 11, and everything looks in place for a big run now that she has her optimum conditions.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Gouray Girl (9/1 Hills – BOG)
