Hill Fort is back down to his last winning mark and makes plenty of appeal at 8/1 in the 4.00 at Chepstow today now eased in grade.

Matt Sheppard’s seven-year-old was last successful in the mud over 2m at this venue when running on strongly to score by eight lengths in a class 4 affair.

He got put up to 123 for that easy success and has failed to trouble the judged in fourth subsequent outings.

However, they have all been in class 3 contests and he shaped quite nicely in the last of those over 2m 1f at Cheltenham when staying on from off the pqce to be nearest at the finish and seventh of 13 to Kapstadt in what was a hot contest for the grade.

The handicapper has since dropped Hill Fort another 3lb to 112 and that should enable him to be very competitive now dropped back down into class 4 company – the same as when last successful.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Hill Fort (8/1 Betfred, Ladbrokes, Sky Bet – BOG)
