Holly Flight looks worth an each-way wager at 16/1 on handicap debut in the 2.20 at Fairyhouse today.
The mare shaped with plnety of promise on debut in France back in May 2015 when a 5 1/2 length third of 13 to Apple’s Jade who is now rated 155 having won the Mares’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival when last seen in action.
Holly Flight was then spent 691 days on the sidelines before making a winning debut for Alan Fleming in a maiden hurdle at Downpatrick.
After being held-up travelling strongly in mid-division, the five-year-old made good headway three from home and looked set to win comfortaby when jumping the last in second place.
However, lack of fitness then began to take it’s toll and in the end the winning margin was only a short-head.
To me the way in which she travelled impressed and suggested she was value for more than the winning margin and needed keeping onside.
Holly Flight clearly has a big engine and retains plenty of ability and is also open to any amount of improvement after just two starts.
An opening handicap mark of 116 could underestimate her ability.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Holly Flight (16/1 Paddy Power – BOG, 1/5 odds 1,2,3,4,5)
