The progressive Honeysuckle Lil looks decent value at 12/1 on handicap debut in the nursery at Ayr today (2.05).

Tim Easterby’s filly shaped with plenty of promise on her first two starts before showing marked improvement to win a 6f maiden at Newcastle in good style.

The daughter of Alfred Noble still looked green, but showed plenty of dash to chase the leaders before staying on strongly inside the alst to win going away by 2 1/2 lengths from Flicka’s Boy.

It was an effort which suggested Honeysuckle Lil needing keeping onside, and the form of the race doesn’t to bad as the runner-up was officially rated 73 and had previously run well to finish third behind the classy ToocoolforSchool at Ripon and a decent second to Primrose Valley at Newcastle.

Based on that run Honeysuckle Lil does not look harshly treated off an opening mark of 77, especially with the talented Rachel Richardson in the saddle whose claim takes another 7lb off her back.

She also looks the type who is on an upward curve and open to plenty more progress, and at the odds on offer makes plenty of each-way appeal.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Honeysuckle Lil (12/1 bet365, Betfred – BOG)
