Ice fancied to Blast home

Posted on by Dave Metcalf

Connections are re-fitting Iceblast with the blinkers in the 4.30 at Beverley today and that makes him of major interest at 6/1.

Mick Easterby’s gelding last in a handicap at Thirsk last April off a mark of 72, and after being placed in his next two starts off 80 and 83 largely lost his way.

But the four-year-old has shown signs of late that he is coming back to form and now races off just 59.

That gives him a tremendous chance from a handicapping perspective, and it’s interesting that he is now reunited with Graham Gibbons who was on board when he scored at Thirsk.

Gibbons has only partnered him once since then – when he was outclassed behind sea Moon at York last June – and his presence in the saddle has to be respected given how shrewd the yard are.

The selection has not been knocked about in his last two runs, when finishing third and fourth, and this represents a great chance for him to get back into the winners’ enclosure from a career-low mark.

He also has a decent draw to exploit in gate 12, and everything looks in place for a huge run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Iceblast (6/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
