King of Eden looks to have plenty going for him in the 3.00 at Chester today and is strongly fancied at 7/1 to land the spoils.

Eric Alston’s gelding looked better than ever when winning a 7f handicap at Newcastle back in April where he made virtually all and was clear two out before being eased down to beat Showboating by 5 lengths off a mark of 83.

The runner-up has scored since, as has the third home Ready, fifth home Seattle Drive (twice) and sixth home Clockmaker to give the form a really solid look.

The selection then went on to finish a solid runner-up to Gandalak in a 14 runner 6f contest at Newcastle off 89, after which his form tailed off in his next four starts.

However the handicapper began to ease him in the weights as a result, and he duly put in a much improved effort last time out when third of 10 to Green Howard over 7f at Newcastle.

The seven-year-old found himself playing catch up after being slowly away at the start but stayed on strongly at the death to be beaten just 1 1/4 lengths.

It wsa an effort which suggested it would not be long before he got back into the winners’ enclosure and he now gets into this off the same mark which is just 2lb higher than his runaway success at Newcastle.

It gives him every chnace at the weights, and other pluses are that he has Neil Farley in the saddle taking another 3lb off his back, a good draw in stall 3 and is 1-1 over course and distance for a trainer who loves to have winners at the track.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win King Of Eden (7/1 BetVictor – BOG)
