Lamboro Lad has been given a massive chance by the handicapper and at 13/2 rates the best bet on today’s card at Ffos Las (2.25).
Peter Bowen’s gelding was rated as high as 126 when placed in some decent novice hurdles in 2010 and was off the track for 473 days before reappearing at Aintree last October.
Not surprisingly he shaped as if badly needing the race and finished a well beaten 11th of 14 having raced up with the pace, and he also failed to fire in his next two runs.
However he showed far more sparkle two runs ago at Doncaster when a highly encouraging fourth of 16 to Allthekingshorses.
The seven-year-old kept on in eye-catching style to be beaten just 5 3/4 lengths in a highly competitive affair and followed that up with a fair sixth at Newbury last time out behind Benbens.
Held up that day he made a couple of costly errorts before working his way into contention and in the end did well to be beaten just over 6 lengths despite hanging badly late on.
The assessor has since dropped him another pound to a career-low mark of 109, and that gives him a huge chance from a handicapping perspective.
Another plus is that his shrewd handler has booked the services of the highly talented Bredan Powell who is unbelievable value for his 5lb claim.
That effectively takes his mark down to just 104, and from the foot of the weights he looks sure to take all the beating.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Lamboro Lad (13/2 bet365, BetVictor – BOG)
