Leviathan has disappointed in his last two starts but looks worth siding with at 12/1 to bounce back in the 3.30 at Taunton today now eased in grade.

Venetia Williams’ gelding was in good form last season when landing contest at Haydock and Stratford and got back in the winners’ enclosure three starts back at Ascot when readily beating Sweet Deal in a class 2 contest.

The eight-year-old raced keenly at the head of affairs in testing conditions and found plenty to draw clear and win easing down by 3 lengths off a mark of 127.

The runner-up is a well regadred sort, and the fourth home Starluck – who was beaten  further 8 1/2 lengths – has won since to give the form a boost.

Although Leviathan has run nowhere near that level in two subsequent starts, they have been in a listed class 1 contest at Sandown and a comeptitive class 2 affair at the same venue off marks of 135 and 132 respectively.

Leviathian now drops back down markedly into class 3 company, and that may well see him in a different light as the handicapper has been quick to cut him plenty of slack.

He has been dropped another 3lb since his last run, and now races off just 2lb higher than when winning easily at Ascot in a higher grade.

That gives him every chance from a handicapping perspective, and with underfoot conditions to suit he looks overpriced at the odds on offer.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Leviathan (12/1 Stan James – BOG)
