Lombok has been given a chance by the handicapper and makes plenty of appeal at 9/1 in the 5.30 at Plumpton today after an eye-catching run last time out.

Gary Moore’s gelding isn’t the easiest to win with and often finishes off his races weakly.

However he is a useful sort in this grade when things do drop right as he showed when registering his last success over course and distance back in October 2011.

Held-up that day off a decent pace he made smooth headway two from home and only had to be driven out to beat Brunton Blue by 2 3/4 lengths off a mark of 80.

He followed that up with two solid efforts to be placed off a mark of 86, after which he was off the track for 200 days.

Since his comeback he hasn’t been at his best, but he ran a fair race on the flat to finish runner- up on the level at Kempton three starts back and ran better than his finishing position suggests last time out when 7th of 8 to Sugar Hiccup in a handicap hurdle at Fontwell.

Although eventually beaten 35 lengths, he travelled strongly into the contest having been held up in the last trio and made good headway five out to chase the leading pair.

He then went second after three out before weakening on the flat and being allowed to come home in his own time.

The handicapper has since dropped him another couple of pounds to a mark of 78, and that menas that he is now 2lb lower than when last successful.

It gives him every chance at the weights if he can build on his latest effort, and it’s interesting that ne now returns to this venue for the first time since October 2011 when his two runs at it that season resulted in a win and a good second.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Lombok (9/1 Betfred – BOG)
