Lomond Lassie looks worth siding with at 8/1 on her handicap debut in the 2.50 at Redcar today from what could be a lenient mark.

Keith Dalgleish’s filly hinted that she had ability in three maiden runs last season, most notabaly when sixth of 12 to Lily Rules over 6f at Newcastle.

Although eventually beaten 11 1/4 lengths, Lomond Lassie showed plenty of pace to chase the leaders until weakening a furlong from home and was not kncoked about.

The race has also thrown up plenty of subsequent winners and has a strong looks to it.

The winner has scored since and finished a fine sixth in the Nell Gwyn before an excellent second in the Group 2 Musidora At York off an official ratuing of 96, the runner up Broadcaster is rated 77, the third home Foxy Clarets has won since and been rated as high as 82, and the fifth home Tautira has gone on to land two handicaps off 63 and 67.

That makes Lomond Lassie look attractively weighted of an opening mark of just 57, and she look’s the type who will do better as a three-year-old.

The daughter of Sakhee’s Secret showed also be suited by the drop back to 5f, and with Tom Eaves in the saddle rates the best bet on the card.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Lomond Lassie (8/1 BetVictor – BOG)
