Long Awaited has been disappointing in his last two starts but has conditions to suit in the 4.40 at Newmarket and looks worth another chance at 10/1.
David Barron’s gelding ran too bad to be true last time out when trailing in last to Judge N’Jury at York, and prior to that was unsuited by the track when finishing 13th of 20 to Stone Of Folca in the Epsom Dash.
However he had previously looked a sprinter to keep on the right side when winning at Doncaster on his seasonal reappearance, where he travelled supremely well throughout and after cruising into the lead on the bridle only had to be shaken up to quicken and beat Even Stevens by a cosy 3/4 of a length off a mark of 82.
The son of Pivotal was value for much more than the winning margin and his current rating of 87 certainly looks workable.
He is the type that only just does enough and has a good turn of foot, and that makes him very difficult for the handicapper to get to grips with.
Today’s track should suit, and with all his best form coming with cut in the ground it would be no surprise to see him bounce back and run a huge race.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Long Awaited (10/1 -Blue square, Sky Bet, Stan James)
